Recognizing Signs of Substance Abuse:
Signs of Substance Dependence
|
Adolescents can turn to the use of drugs and alcohol for many different reasons. Sometimes it can serve as a way to fit in to a certain social group and sometimes it can serve as a way to alleviate stress and anxiety. Most adolescents begin to use substances out of curiosity or to have fun and fit in to social groups. Unfortunately when a adolescent's use increases or is used as a way of coping with life, there are usually unwanted consequences that follow.
At the Bay Area Center for Adolescents, our therapist have experience and success working with adolescents and their families dealing with alcohol and drugs. We work with families with kids that are just experimenting, all the way to kids that are addicted.
Our therapists are trained in effective forms of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Brief Strategic Family Therapy, and Multidimensional Family Therapy, which are proven treatments for success with adolescents and substance abuse.
We also have an educational consultant on staff who can guide families in choosing outpatient or inpatient drug/alcohol rehabs if the problem can not be treated with weekly therapy. We work with families every step of the way and meet them where they're at to determine the best level of care
