Growing up is not easy. The adolescent years are a whirlwind of changes in hormones, behaviors, emotions, and thoughts. This period of an adolescent’s life is filled with many transitions at home, in school, with peers, and within themselves. While navigating through these transitions, some challenges may arise that can disrupt an adolescent’s developmental path. These challenges can come from school stress, divorce or parental arguing, learning challenges, peer pressure, bullying (in-person and cyber), moving to a new home, hormones, and learning how to manage their emotions. Sometimes these challenges become too much to handle and seeing a therapist can assist in relieving some of this distress.
Therapy is individualized to the needs of each adolescent/teen. Our clinicians can work with your child to help them to be aware and identify the causes of their distress, to help them properly express how they are feeling, and to learn to ask for help when they need it. With this awareness, your child will be better able to navigate this challenging time in their life, become more independent, and maintain a healthy relationship within the family.
