ADHD can be challenging for both adolescents and their families.
Many teens with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder want to succeed—they know what’s expected of them, but struggle with follow-through when the moment arrives. This disconnect can lead to frequent trouble at home, in school, and in social settings.
ADHD often involves difficulty with impulse control, distractibility, emotional regulation, and frustration—especially around academics. These challenges can contribute to defiance at home, low self-esteem, depression, and even risky behaviors such as substance use, as teens may try to self-medicate or cope with feelings of failure. Social difficulties are also common, further impacting a teen’s confidence and sense of belonging.
At the Bay Area Center for Adolescents, we understand the complex impact ADHD can have—and we know how to help.
While ADHD is a lifelong condition, it doesn’t have to control a teen’s future. We work with adolescents and their families to understand how ADHD affects them, and to develop effective strategies for managing symptoms.
Teens will learn tools to help them stay organized, regulate their emotions, and build self-confidence. Just as importantly, we help them protect and strengthen their sense of identity, so they can thrive—not just academically, but socially and emotionally.
We also support parents in creating structure that is both effective and sustainable—so they can guide their teen without becoming overwhelmed or over-involved.
Our comprehensive approach may include:
